Why this proved DePIN
Pre-Helium: telecom infra required $B in capital and government spectrum bidding. Helium showed that a token-incentivized network could deploy comparable coverage in dense areas at a fraction of the capex. T-Mobile's willingness to sign the roaming deal validated the model.
Limitations
- Coverage is dense in cities, spotty outside.
- Hotspot ROI depends on local phone traffic (many operators underearn).
- Token emissions may not sustain long-term if usage doesn't grow.
