Monad: The Parallel EVM

New Chainsadvanced7 min read
How Monad claims 10,000 TPS while staying byte-for-byte EVM-compatible. Superscalar pipelining, MonadBFT, and MonadDb.

Monad is an L1 aiming to run 10,000 transactions per second while remaining full EVM-compatible (any Solidity contract deploys unchanged). Monad Labs raised $225M and launched testnet in early 2024, mainnet expected 2025-2026.

Four core innovations

Why EVM equivalence matters

Solana is fast but Solidity does not run there. Aptos and Sui are fast but require Move. Monad aims to give Solana-class performance while inheriting Ethereum's entire toolchain. Every audit, every library, every deployed contract can move over.

Realistic TPS

Testnet benchmarks show 10,000 TPS sustained. Real mainnet TPS will depend on transaction mix (transfers parallelize better than complex DeFi) and validator hardware.

Trade-offs

Where it fits

Consumer DeFi that needs Solana-like throughput but wants Ethereum's tooling. Meme coins that need cheap fast execution. High-frequency perps and orderbooks that scale beyond Base or Arbitrum.
